Tehran, I. R. Iran.
I Embarked on my academic journey with a focus on theology and Islamic studies, aiming to develop a theory in Islamic science. After completing my Master’s degree in Islamic studies with a thesis on psychology and mental health from an Islamic perspective, I pursued a Ph.D. in Islamic philosophy. In my academic pursuit, John Hick has had a profound impact on my philosophical journey, molding my perspectives and directing my exploration of philosophy of religion, with a specific focus on religious pluralism. During my doctoral program, I received guidance from esteemed philosophers such as Seyed Hossein Nasr and the late Seyed Hassan Mostafavi, who served as my supervisors. In my shift towards emphasizing mere rationality, I have also been influenced by the late philosopher Antony Flew, whose astonishing philosophical life and works have played a significant role in shaping my philosophical outlook. This evolution in my thinking reflects a deepened commitment to rationality as the primary guiding principle in my academic pursuits, defining it as logical-philosophical reasoning and/or scientific discoveries above all else.
In addition to my studies in Islamic philosophy and philosophy of religion, I also explored media studies, particularly investigating philosophical attitudes. This exploration inspired me to establish and organize a new disciplines in Iran, the Philosophy of Media and Media and Religion. Drawing from my experiences at institutions such as Sharif University of Technology and Indiana University, as well as through international collaborations, I have revisited my early interest in the intersection of religion and science, now emphasizing rationality as an exclusive fundamental criterion. My recent studies and research have thus focused on evolutionary biology and its relation to theology and its philosophical debates. However, as I uncovered the significance of rationality in the history of Islamic philosophy through Avicenna, I am currently scrutinizing Avicenna’s philosophy with a new perspective. These endeavors underscore the importance of rationality as the cornerstone of free thinking, allowing liberation from biases and obstacles in academic discourse as well as all human domains.
